Kicking off another UNICEF workshop this week are student volunteers from Umbra and the University of Perugia. Students will work alongside local Italian volunteers each week to design and sew Pigotta dolls and their clothes. Each doll is adopted and raises enough money to fund a vaccine kit protecting a child and his/her mother against deadly diseases in developing countries. UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, has their local office in a beautifully frescoed office in walking distance from Umbra. This workshop is the perfect opportunity for the student volunteers to learn Italian, make new friends, and be proud of their donation to a global cause.

Lemon trees and crystal clear blue water. Life doesn’t get much better than this. Students who came on the optional trip enjoyed a weekend of fun in the sun in Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri, and Naples. The trip started with a guided tour around the Pompeii ruins then getting settled in for the weekend in breathtaking Sorrento. The next day, everyone boarded the ferry set sail for the famous island of Capri to enjoy a day of sightseeing on a floating paradise. The trip concluded with a guided tour of Naples, some delicious Napoletana pizza and pastries, and then the journey back home-sweet-home— Perugia.
